Which Chakra Is Blocked?

21 statements, three for each centre — and a result that scores all seven rather than picking one and hoping. When two centres tie, this quiz says so.

Answer for the last month or so, not for your life in general. There is no right answer and nothing is sent anywhere.

  1. 1Money, housing or work feels precarious, even when nothing has actually gone wrong.
  2. 2I let myself want things, and I can say out loud what I want.
  3. 3I go along with plans I did not choose, and only notice afterwards.
  4. 4I keep people at a slight distance, including ones I love.
  5. 5I can say the difficult thing calmly, without softening it into nothing.
  6. 6I talk myself out of things I quietly knew were true.
  7. 7I feel part of something larger than my own week.
  8. 8Things I used to enjoy feel flat rather than difficult.
  9. 9I feel at home in my own body — fed, rested, physically here.
  10. 10I forgive without keeping the ledger open, including with myself.
  11. 11I re-litigate a decision for days after I have made it.
  12. 12I trust my read on a situation before I can fully explain it.
  13. 13The days blur together and I could not say what any of it is for.
  14. 14There is a conversation I keep not having.
  15. 15I am harder on myself than I would ever be on a friend.
  16. 16I have stopped being curious about anything beyond the immediate.
  17. 17I talk to fill a silence, then wish I had said less.
  18. 18I brace for something to go wrong before there is any sign of it.
  19. 19My thinking feels foggy — I read the same paragraph twice.
  20. 20I start creative things and abandon them before they take a shape.
  21. 21When I decide something, I act on it without needing anyone's permission.

How this quiz decides — and when it admits it can't

Every centre owns exactly 3 statements, each rated from Never to Almost always on a 5-point scale, so every centre scores somewhere between 0 and 12. Nothing about the question set makes one chakra likelier to come out on top than another — that is a property of the instrument, and it is verified on every build rather than promised.

One statement per centre is written the healthy way round and scored in reverse. That is not decoration: on a questionnaire where agreeing always means "blocked", anyone who taps down one column gets handed a diagnosis made of nothing. Here that pattern produces a flat profile, which is the honest reading of it.

21statements, 3 per centre
0–12identical range for all seven
24.7%of random answer sets have no single top centre
61.9%have the runner-up within one point

Those last two are exact probabilities for an instrument of this shape under random answering, computed in closed form and re-derived from the question bank on every build. They describe the questionnaire, not people — but they are the reason a quiz that names exactly one chakra every single time is telling you more than it knows. When your top two are level, this page says they are level.

Not a medical instrument. This is a reflection tool, not a medical instrument. Nothing here diagnoses anything. Persistent low mood, exhaustion, pain or anxiety are worth taking to a doctor, and no amount of crystal work is a substitute for that.

The seven centres, and what a block looks like in each

Read these whether or not you take the quiz — the signs are the useful part. Each centre carries what tradition treats as a block, what it looks like when it is running clear, three practices, and the stones this site has full guides for.

🟥

Root Chakra Muladhara

At the base of the spine

The centre of ground under your feet: money, housing, health, safety, and the body's own sense that it is allowed to relax. It is the first thing to go when life gets precarious and the last thing to come back.

Signs it is blocked

  • A background hum of financial or housing worry that does not track what is actually in the account
  • Sleeping badly, or waking at the same hour with the jaw already tight
  • Feeling rushed through days that are not, objectively, that full
  • Treating food, rest and the body as items to get through rather than needs
  • Bracing for bad news as a default posture

Signs it is running clear

  • You can sit still without reaching for something
  • Money worries are proportionate to actual money
  • You eat and sleep roughly when your body asks
  • You feel like a resident of your own life rather than a visitor

Root shows up as the centre that needs attention when nothing is technically wrong and everything still feels unsteady. Tradition puts it at the base of the spine and treats it as the foundation the other six stand on, which is why it is worth taking first: work on the throat while the root is shaky and the words come out shaky too. The remedy in this tradition is deliberately unglamorous — regular meals, a fixed bedtime, feet on floor, one boring administrative task actually finished. Root work is not mystical. It is doing the dull thing that makes the ground stop moving.

How to unblock the root chakra

  • Do the smallest heavy thing. One postponed practical task — the letter, the form, the appointment. Root does not respond to intention, it responds to finished business.
  • Weight and floor. Feet flat, shoes off, five slow breaths with the weight in your heels. Traditional root practice is almost entirely about restoring the sensation of being held up.
  • Walk without a destination. Twenty minutes, no podcast, no route. Repetitive movement over ground is the oldest grounding practice there is, and it costs nothing.

“I am allowed to take up room, and the ground will hold me.”

Sacral Chakra Svadhisthana

At the below the navel

Appetite in the widest sense — pleasure, creativity, desire, the willingness to begin something for no reason but wanting to. It goes flat rather than painful, which is why it is the easiest of the seven to miss.

Signs it is blocked

  • Things you used to enjoy have gone flat rather than difficult
  • Starting creative things and abandoning them before they take a shape
  • Guilt attached to rest, pleasure or anything unproductive
  • Wanting something and being unable to say what
  • A sense of going through the motions competently

Signs it is running clear

  • You want things, and you can name them out loud
  • You make things without needing them to be good
  • Pleasure does not have to be earned first
  • You are curious about something for no useful reason

The sacral centre is where the tradition puts appetite, and a blocked sacral almost never announces itself as suffering. It shows up as competence without appetite: everything is being done, nothing is being wanted. That is why people notice a stuck sacral months late, usually when someone asks what they would like and the honest answer is that they no longer know. The traditional work here is not to force a big creative project. It is smaller and more embarrassing than that — do one thing purely because it is pleasant, make one thing badly and keep it, and let a want be a want without a justification attached.

How to unblock the sacral chakra

  • Make something bad on purpose. Fifteen minutes, no standard, and it does not get shown to anyone. The block is almost always the standard, not the ability.
  • One unearned pleasure. Something enjoyable placed before the work rather than after it, and not as a reward. Sacral work is largely undoing the reward structure.
  • Water and hips. A long bath, swimming, or anything that moves the hips — dancing counts, badly. The traditional associations here are water and motion, and both are more available than they sound.

“I am allowed to want things, and wanting is not a debt.”

🟨

Solar Plexus Chakra Manipura

At the above the navel

The will centre — confidence, boundaries in the assertive direction, and the nerve to act on a decision you have already made. It is the difference between knowing what you want and doing anything about it.

Signs it is blocked

  • Going along with plans you did not choose, and only noticing afterwards
  • Re-litigating decisions for days after making them
  • Apologising as punctuation
  • Deferring to whoever in the room sounds most certain
  • Anger that arrives late, alone, and about the wrong thing

Signs it is running clear

  • You can say no without building a case for it
  • A decision made stays made
  • You act on your own read of a situation
  • Disagreement does not feel like danger

Solar plexus is the centre tradition assigns to will, and it fails in a very particular way: not as weakness, but as delay. The decision is made, the position is held privately, and nothing follows it. People with a stuck solar plexus are usually not unclear — they are clear and quiet. The classic tradition remedy is to spend the charge rather than store it: one small no, said early, out loud, in a low-stakes place. It is worth being honest that this centre is also where people confuse being aggressive with being assertive. Solar plexus work is not about turning the volume up. It is about the decision arriving at the same time as the sentence.

How to unblock the solar plexus chakra

  • One small, early no. Not the big one. A trivial invitation declined on the day it is offered, without an excuse attached, so the reflex gets practised somewhere cheap.
  • Decide, then close the file. Write the decision and the reason down once. When it comes back around, reread it instead of relitigating it.
  • Take up the room you paid for. Sit back rather than forward, uncross, and speak second rather than last. The traditional posture work here is about not shrinking.

“My decision is enough of a reason.”

🟩

Heart Chakra Anahata

At the centre of the chest

The middle chakra and the hinge of the whole scheme, joining the three body centres below to the three above. Love in every direction — including toward yourself — plus grief, forgiveness, and the decision to stay open after a reason not to.

Signs it is blocked

  • Keeping people at a slight distance, including ones you love
  • Being kinder to a stranger than to yourself
  • Old resentments that still have full detail
  • Difficulty accepting help, or a compliment, without deflecting
  • Grief that has gone quiet without ever going anywhere

Signs it is running clear

  • You forgive without keeping the ledger open
  • You can be helped without it costing you something
  • Affection is easy to give and possible to receive
  • You speak to yourself roughly as you would to a friend

The heart sits in the middle of the seven for a reason the tradition is explicit about: it is where the body centres and the head centres meet, and a closed heart quietly limits both. In practice a stuck heart is rarely coldness. It is a slight, permanent distance — the friendliness kept one step out. It is also, more often than anything else in this scheme, self-directed: people with a blocked heart are frequently generous outward and merciless inward. The traditional work is the smallest possible act of openness rather than a grand reconciliation. One honest sentence, one accepted offer of help, one moment of talking to yourself the way you would talk to someone you liked.

How to unblock the heart chakra

  • Accept one thing. The next offer of help, take it, without a counter-offer. Heart work in this tradition is about receiving at least as much as it is about giving.
  • Write the letter, keep the letter. To whoever the resentment is about. It is not sent. The point is to find out what it actually says, which is usually shorter than expected.
  • Your own name, kindly. Say the sentence you would say to a friend in your position, out loud, using your own name. It feels ridiculous, and it lands anyway.

“I can stay open and still be safe.”

🟦

Throat Chakra Vishuddha

At the hollow of the throat

Speech — and in practice that means the specific conversation you keep not having. It covers the opposite failure too: talking to fill silence, agreeing too fast, softening the point into nothing.

Signs it is blocked

  • There is a conversation you keep not having, and you know which one
  • Rehearsing sentences you never deliver
  • Agreeing in the room and disagreeing on the way home
  • Filling silence with words you regret
  • A tight throat or jaw at the moment of speaking

Signs it is running clear

  • You can say the difficult thing calmly and once
  • You ask for what you need plainly
  • Silence is comfortable
  • What you say in the room matches what you think in the car

The throat is the most diagnosable of the seven, because a blocked throat comes with a specific conversation attached. Almost everyone who scores high here can name it inside five seconds. What tradition adds is the observation that the block runs both ways: the person who cannot say the hard thing is often the same person who talks too much around it. The remedy is not courage in the abstract. It is one sentence, prepared, said early, without the cushion of qualifiers. Notice too that a shaky throat is often a root problem wearing a throat costume — if both scored high, the tradition says do the root first and the sentence comes out steadier.

How to unblock the throat chakra

  • One sentence, written first. The difficult thing, in one sentence, on paper, with every 'just', 'maybe' and 'sorry' removed. Then say that sentence and stop.
  • Let the silence sit. After you say it, count to five before adding anything. Most throat blocks are undone by what gets said in the panic afterwards.
  • Use the voice for nothing. Singing, humming, reading aloud. The traditional throat practices are all about using the voice with no consequence attached to it.

“What I have to say is allowed to be said plainly.”

Third Eye Chakra Ajna

At the between the brows

Insight, dreams, and the sense of knowing something before you can justify it. Blocked, it is not an absence of vision — it is the habit of talking yourself out of what you saw.

Signs it is blocked

  • Talking yourself out of things you quietly knew were true
  • Needing a full argument before trusting a plain impression
  • Mental fog — reading the same paragraph twice
  • Not remembering dreams, or dismissing them on principle
  • Asking three people for an opinion you already have

Signs it is running clear

  • You trust a read before you can defend it
  • You can sit with an unresolved question
  • You notice patterns without forcing them
  • Your attention lands where you point it

The third eye is where tradition puts perception rather than thinking, and the classic block is not blindness but overruling. The impression arrives, and it is immediately outvoted by a demand for evidence it was never going to have. There is a mundane version of this centre too, and it is worth saying out loud: fog, distraction and a mind that will not settle are usually a sleep, screen or stress problem long before they are a spiritual one. Fix that layer first — it is the honest advice, and it is free. What is left after that is genuine third-eye work: recording the impression before arguing with it, and giving it long enough to be checked.

How to unblock the third eye chakra

  • Record before you argue. Write the first impression down before the reasoning starts. Reread a week later. The scoring is the point — you find out how good your read actually is.
  • One question, unanswered. Hold a real question overnight without searching for the answer. Insight in this tradition is mostly a matter of not filling the gap too fast.
  • Dark, quiet, unlit. Ten minutes with the lights off and no screen. The traditional third-eye practices are all about reducing input, not adding it.

“I am allowed to know things before I can prove them.”

Crown Chakra Sahasrara

At the top of the head

Meaning, perspective, and the sense of belonging to something larger than your own week. It does not fail loudly. It fails as flatness — days that blur, a life that runs correctly and does not seem to be for anything.

Signs it is blocked

  • Days blur together and you could not say what any of it is for
  • Curiosity has narrowed to the immediate and the practical
  • Cynicism arriving faster than interest
  • Nothing feels sacred, including things that used to
  • A competent life that does not feel like yours

Signs it is running clear

  • You feel part of something larger than your own week
  • You are curious about something with no use attached
  • Awe still happens, occasionally, unplanned
  • The days have a shape you recognise

Crown is the vaguest of the seven and the easiest to write nonsense about, so here is the concrete version: a blocked crown is a life that works and does not mean anything. Everything is being handled. None of it is being felt. Tradition places this centre at the top of the head and treats it as connection to whatever is larger than you, which each person will name differently and does not have to name at all. The practices are correspondingly plain — put yourself in front of something big, stop optimising an hour of the week, and be somewhere with people who are doing something for a reason other than money. If crown scored highest alongside a very low root, take the root seriously first: meaning is hard to find while the ground is moving.

How to unblock the crown chakra

  • Stand in front of something large. Sky, sea, a cathedral, a long view. The oldest crown practice is scale, and it works on people who believe nothing in particular.
  • One hour with no purpose. Not restful, not productive — unassigned. Meaning tends to arrive in the gaps, and a fully optimised week has none.
  • Something older than you. A text, a building, a practice with centuries behind it. Crown work is largely about remembering you arrived partway through.

“I belong to something larger than this week.”

Fact, and tradition

This site separates the two on purpose, and the chakra scheme needs it more than most subjects do. Here is which is which.

  • fact
The seven-chakra scheme comes from tantric Sanskrit texts.

It does, though not in the form most people meet it. The six centres plus the thousand-petalled sahasrara are set out in the Sat-cakra-nirupana, written by Purnananda in 1577, and reached English through John Woodroffe's 1919 translation The Serpent Power. Other Indian texts count four centres, five, nine or twelve. Seven is one scheme among several, not the scheme.

  • myth
The rainbow colours are the traditional chakra colours.

They are not. The red-to-violet run is a twentieth-century Western convention, spread through Theosophy — C. W. Leadbeater's The Chakras, 1927 — and the New Age literature after it. The Sanskrit sources describe the lotuses with their own colours and seed syllables, and they do not line up with a spectrum. The rainbow is a good mnemonic and a modern one.

  • tradition
A blocked chakra produces specific symptoms.

The lists on this page are what energy-work tradition associates with each centre, and they are useful as a vocabulary for noticing patterns in yourself. They are not diagnostic. Nothing in the medical literature identifies chakras as physical structures or shows that a quiz can detect a blockage in one.

  • fact
This quiz cannot detect anything about your body.

It reads back what you told it. Twenty-one statements, scored, sorted — that is the whole mechanism, and it is printed on this page so you can check it. What it is genuinely good at is making a pattern in your own answers visible, which is a real use and a modest one.

  • tradition
Certain crystals work on certain chakras.

The stone-to-centre pairings here are the standard ones from crystal-healing literature — the colour logic is doing most of the work, greens and pinks at the heart, blues at the throat. Held as tradition it is a pleasant and harmless practice. Held as medicine it is neither.

  • fact
Most 'which chakra is blocked' quizzes cannot honestly name one.

On an instrument of this shape, answered at random, at least two centres tie for the top about a quarter of the time, and the runner-up is within a single point roughly three-fifths of the time. Every quiz that always names exactly one chakra is resolving those cases silently. This one shows all seven scores and says when it is close.

  • tradition
You should work on the lowest chakra first.

That is the traditional ordering, and it is the one piece of chakra folk-advice with obvious practical sense behind it: the scheme treats the lower centres as the foundation of the upper ones. If root and crown both score high, the tradition says start at the root. Meaning is hard to find while the ground is moving.

Source: The seven-centre scheme this quiz uses is the one that reached English through the tantric literature: the Sat-cakra-nirupana (Purnananda, 1577), translated by John Woodroffe as 'Arthur Avalon' in The Serpent Power (1919), and popularised in the West through Theosophy — C. W. Leadbeater's The Chakras (1927) — and the New Age writing that followed it. The rainbow colour scheme, the one-colour-per-centre convention every chart on the internet uses, is from that Western layer and not from the Sanskrit sources, which describe the lotuses with their own colours and seed syllables. Signs of a 'blocked' centre and the crystal correspondences are modern energy-work and crystal-healing TRADITION, published across the standard references and stated here as reflection, not as diagnosis. The instrument's arithmetic — 3 statements per chakra, one of them reverse-scored, an identical 0-12 range for all seven, and the published probabilities — is FACT and is recomputed by scripts/check-chakra.py on every run.

Questions people ask

Which chakra is blocked — how does this quiz decide?

Twenty-one statements, three for each of the seven chakras, each rated from Never to Almost always. Every chakra can score from 0 to 12, and one of its three statements is worded the healthy way round and scored in reverse, so agreeing with everything does not produce a result. The centre with the highest score is the one reading as most blocked — and you are shown all seven scores, not just the winner.

How accurate is a chakra quiz?

It is exactly as accurate as your answers. There is no measurement of your body happening — the quiz reads back the pattern in what you said about how you have been feeling. That pattern is genuinely worth seeing, which is why the result shows all seven bars rather than one verdict. It is reflection, not diagnosis.

What are the signs of a blocked chakra?

In this tradition each centre has its own set. Root reads as unsteadiness and money or safety worry; sacral as flatness and abandoned creative starts; solar plexus as going along with things and re-litigating decisions; heart as distance and self-criticism; throat as the conversation you keep not having; third eye as talking yourself out of what you knew; crown as days that blur and nothing feeling like it is for anything. All seven are listed in full on this page.

Can more than one chakra be blocked at once?

Usually, yes, and this quiz will tell you when that is what your answers show. On an instrument of this shape at least two centres share the top score about a quarter of the time. The tradition's own advice when several are high is to start with the lowest one on the body, because the scheme treats the lower centres as the ground the upper ones stand on.

How do I unblock a chakra?

The traditional practices are far more ordinary than the vocabulary suggests: finish one postponed practical task for root, make something badly for sacral, say one small no early for solar plexus, accept one offer of help for heart, say the difficult sentence once for throat, write the impression down before arguing with it for third eye, stand in front of something large for crown. Each chakra on this page carries its three, plus the stones traditionally paired with it.

Which crystal is for which chakra?

The standard pairings follow colour more than anything else: dark and dense stones at the root, oranges at the sacral, yellows at the solar plexus, greens and pinks at the heart, blues at the throat, indigos at the third eye, clear and violet at the crown. Every chakra section here links the stones we have a full guide for, and the crystal database can filter all of them by centre.

Are chakras real?

They are a real and old model of inner life, set out in Sanskrit texts and practised with for centuries. They are not anatomical structures, and no medical evidence supports treating them as such. The honest framing — the one this site uses everywhere — is that the chakra scheme is a vocabulary for parts of experience that are otherwise hard to name, and a good one.

Are the rainbow chakra colours traditional?

No, and this is the most widely repeated error about the whole scheme. The red-to-violet spectrum is a twentieth-century Western addition, popularised through Theosophy in the 1920s and the New Age publishing that followed. The tantric sources give the lotuses their own colours and syllables, which do not form a rainbow.

Do I have to believe in chakras for this to be useful?

No. Read the seven centres as seven areas of a life — safety, appetite, will, connection, speech, perception, meaning — and the quiz is a structured way of asking which one is currently sore. The result holds up whether or not you think anything is spinning.
