Crystals for the Third Eye Chakra

The stones traditionally worked with at the third eye chakra, at the between the brows.

The third eye sits between the brows and is associated with insight, dreams and the sense of knowing something before you can justify it. In practice its stones are used for reflection, journalling and dreamwork rather than for anything outward-facing. They are the deep blues and violets, and they are traditionally kept by the bed or held during meditation.

⚠️ Azurite is a toxic mineral. Keep it dry and polished, wash your hands after handling raw pieces, and never make a gem elixir from it. Full care verdicts →

Iolite

Cordierite

Violet-blue and dramatically different from each angle, which is how Norse sailors are said to have used it.

Worth knowing: Iolite is strongly pleochroic: it shows blue, violet and near-colourless depending on the viewing angle. That is a real optical property, not a trick of the setting.

Working with the third eye chakra

The traditional practice is simple and physical: one stone, placed at the between the brows or held in the hand, for as long as it takes to notice your breathing change. Tradition treats more stones as less effect rather than more, and the usual advice is to finish at a lower centre than you started so you do not get up light-headed. If you are new to the scheme, the full guide to the seven chakras explains what each centre is said to govern.

Fact and tradition, kept apart

The mineral family, the Mohs hardness and the water verdict on each card are checkable physical fact, drawn from standard mineralogical and gemmological references. The chakra, element and purpose associations are tradition, published across the modern crystal-healing literature and offered here for reflection rather than as fact. Nothing on this page is medical advice. Browse the full database →
