The stones traditionally worked with at the throat chakra, at the hollow of the throat.
The throat chakra governs speech, and in practice that means the specific conversation you keep not having. It is the centre worked with for saying the difficult thing calmly, for asking plainly, and for the opposite problem of talking to fill silence. Its stones are almost all blue, and they are the group most often worn at the neck rather than carried.
⚠️ Chrysocolla is a toxic mineral. Keep it dry and polished, wash your hands after handling raw pieces, and never make a gem elixir from it. Full care verdicts →
Feldspar · Mohs 6–6.5
Blue-green feldspar traditionally used for saying no without a fight.
Apatite · Mohs 5
Blue-green and tied to motivation with a plan behind it rather than a burst of enthusiasm.
Beryl · Mohs 7.5–8
Sea-blue beryl linked with saying the difficult thing calmly.
Quartz (chalcedony)
Pale blue banded agate, the gentlest of the throat stones and a common gift for anxious talkers.
Volcanic glass
Translucent blue glass used for speaking plainly when the stakes are high.
Worth knowing: Natural blue obsidian is extremely rare. Almost all bright blue obsidian on the market is manufactured glass.

Also sold as hawk's eye. The same fibrous quartz as tiger's eye, but blue and much less pushy.
Sulfate · Mohs 3–3.5
Pale sky-blue crystals, tied to a very quiet kind of stillness.
Feldspar · Mohs 6–6.5
Grey until the light hits it, then blue and gold. Tied to intuition and to change already underway.
Pectolite · Mohs 4.5–5
Caribbean blue pectolite, found only in the Dominican Republic, tied to the sense that it will pass.
Anhydrite · Mohs 3–3.5
Chalky blue anhydrite, associated with comfort and a sense of company.
Copper silicate · Mohs 2.5–3.5
Blue-green copper silicate, the stone for a softer voice in a hard conversation.
Kyanite · Mohs 4.5–7
Blue blades, traditionally used to straighten the line between what you think and what you say.
Rock (lazurite) · Mohs 5–5.5
Ultramarine flecked with pyrite, an ancient stone of wisdom and plain speech.
Sodalite · Mohs 5.5–6
Deep blue veined with white, the stone of cool logic and honest self-assessment.
Turquoise · Mohs 5–6
Sky blue to green, carried for thousands of years as a travelling and protection stone.
The traditional practice is simple and physical: one stone, placed at the hollow of the throat or held in the hand, for as long as it takes to notice your breathing change. Tradition treats more stones as less effect rather than more, and the usual advice is to finish at a lower centre than you started so you do not get up light-headed. If you are new to the scheme, the full guide to the seven chakras explains what each centre is said to govern.
The mineral family, the Mohs hardness and the water verdict on each card are checkable physical fact, drawn from standard mineralogical and gemmological references. The chakra, element and purpose associations are tradition, published across the modern crystal-healing literature and offered here for reflection rather than as fact.
