The intuition stones are the third-eye group: labradorite, moonstone, lapis lazuli, azurite, iolite. Tradition treats them as stones for noticing rather than for knowing, and the usual practice is journalling or dreamwork rather than anything decisive. Several of them, labradorite especially, are also read as signals that a change is already underway rather than as tools to cause one.

⚠️ Azurite is a toxic mineral.
Keep it dry and polished, wash your hands after handling raw
pieces, and never make a gem elixir from it.

Green in daylight and red under lamplight, which is why it became the stone of the two-sided life.
Worth knowing: Genuine alexandrite is rarer than diamond. Nearly everything sold under the name is lab-grown alexandrite or colour-change synthetic corundum.
The purple quartz people reach for first, kept by the bed for a quieter head at night.
⬜ Apophyllite
Phyllosilicate
Glassy clear pyramids that grow on basalt, kept for the sense of a room being aired out.
🔵 Azurite
Copper carbonate · Mohs 3.5–4
Intense blue copper mineral linked with insight that arrives sideways.
Also sold as hawk's eye. The same fibrous quartz as tiger's eye, but blue and much less pushy.
Doubly terminated quartz from Herkimer County, New York, so clear it was mistaken for diamond.
Worth knowing: A Herkimer diamond is quartz, not diamond. It sits at 7 on the Mohs scale rather than 10.
Violet-blue and dramatically different from each angle, which is how Norse sailors are said to have used it.
Worth knowing: Iolite is strongly pleochroic: it shows blue, violet and near-colourless depending on the viewing angle. That is a real optical property, not a trick of the setting.
🌌 Labradorite
Feldspar · Mohs 6–6.5
Grey until the light hits it, then blue and gold. Tied to intuition and to change already underway.
Deep magenta-purple, only identified in 1944, and traditionally given to people who absorb the mood of a room.
🔹 Kyanite
Kyanite · Mohs 4.5–7
Blue blades, traditionally used to straighten the line between what you think and what you say.
🔵 Lapis Lazuli
Rock (lazurite) · Mohs 5–5.5
Ultramarine flecked with pyrite, an ancient stone of wisdom and plain speech.
🌙 Moonstone
Feldspar · Mohs 6–6.5
White with a floating sheen, linked to cycles, patience and your own timing.
🌈 Opal
Silica (hydrated) · Mohs 5.5–6.5
Iridescent and famously changeable, said to amplify whatever mood you already brought.
Worth knowing: Opal is a hydrated silica gel rather than a crystal, and it can craze and crack if it dries out.
How to actually use them
Tradition is more specific about method than most articles let on. Grounding and protection
stones are held or placed rather than worn. Sleep stones go on the nightstand, not under the
pillow where they get lost. Throat stones are worn at the neck. Money stones go where the
money is handled. Pick one rather than a handful: the consistent instruction across the
literature is that a single stone with a stated intention beats a pocketful without one.
If you would rather describe the feeling than pick from a list,
the crystal finder starts from what you need and works
backwards to the stone.

Fact and tradition, kept apart
The mineral family, the Mohs hardness and the water verdict on each card are checkable physical
fact, drawn from standard mineralogical and gemmological references. The chakra, element and
purpose associations are tradition, published across the modern crystal-healing literature and
offered here for reflection rather than as fact. Nothing on this page is medical advice.
