The stones traditionally chosen for cleansing, what each one is used for, and how to look after it.
Cleansing stones clear other stones rather than doing anything on their own account. Selenite is the standard, usually as a flat plate that a collection sits on overnight, and a clear-quartz cluster does the same job. Both are dry methods, which matters, because the water and salt methods people default to will damage a good proportion of the shelf. Check any stone in the safety checker before it goes near water.

Carbonate · Mohs 3
Soft carbonate in orange, yellow, white or green, used for a gentle lift and a change of air.
Gypsum · Mohs 2
Translucent white gypsum, used to clear rather than to add. It dissolves in water.
Quartz · Mohs 7
The blank stone. It holds no agenda of its own, which is why it is used to strengthen whatever sits beside it.
Kyanite · Mohs 4.5–7
Blue blades, traditionally used to straighten the line between what you think and what you say.
Tradition is more specific about method than most articles let on. Grounding and protection stones are held or placed rather than worn. Sleep stones go on the nightstand, not under the pillow where they get lost. Throat stones are worn at the neck. Money stones go where the money is handled. Pick one rather than a handful: the consistent instruction across the literature is that a single stone with a stated intention beats a pocketful without one.
If you would rather describe the feeling than pick from a list, the crystal finder starts from what you need and works backwards to the stone.
The mineral family, the Mohs hardness and the water verdict on each card are checkable physical fact, drawn from standard mineralogical and gemmological references. The chakra, element and purpose associations are tradition, published across the modern crystal-healing literature and offered here for reflection rather than as fact.
