The transformation stones have a reputation, and the tradition does not soften it: moldavite is described everywhere as rearranging lives faster than people expect, and malachite as surfacing everything that has been avoided at once. Labradorite is the gentler member of the group, read less as a cause of change than as a sign that one is already underway. These are not the stones to start with.

⚠️ Malachite is a toxic mineral.
Keep it dry and polished, wash your hands after handling raw
pieces, and never make a gem elixir from it.

Green in daylight and red under lamplight, which is why it became the stone of the two-sided life.
Worth knowing: Genuine alexandrite is rarer than diamond. Nearly everything sold under the name is lab-grown alexandrite or colour-change synthetic corundum.
🌌 Labradorite
Feldspar · Mohs 6–6.5
Grey until the light hits it, then blue and gold. Tied to intuition and to change already underway.
Milky and blue-glowing against the light, popular for transitions and for how it looks.
Worth knowing: Opalite is man-made opalescent glass. It is not opal, not moonstone and not a mineral, and honest sellers say so.
🟢 Malachite
Copper carbonate · Mohs 3.5–4
Banded green copper carbonate, tied to transformation. Toxic, and best kept polished and dry.
Worth knowing: Malachite is a copper carbonate. Its dust is toxic and any water it has soaked in is unsafe to drink.
🌿 Moldavite
Tektite glass · Mohs 5.5
Green glass formed by a meteorite impact, with a reputation for rearranging lives fast.
Worth knowing: Moldavite is a tektite, glass formed by a meteorite impact about 15 million years ago, and it is one of the most faked stones sold. Green bottle glass is the usual substitute.
How to actually use them
Tradition is more specific about method than most articles let on. Grounding and protection
stones are held or placed rather than worn. Sleep stones go on the nightstand, not under the
pillow where they get lost. Throat stones are worn at the neck. Money stones go where the
money is handled. Pick one rather than a handful: the consistent instruction across the
literature is that a single stone with a stated intention beats a pocketful without one.
If you would rather describe the feeling than pick from a list,
the crystal finder starts from what you need and works
backwards to the stone.

Fact and tradition, kept apart
The mineral family, the Mohs hardness and the water verdict on each card are checkable physical
fact, drawn from standard mineralogical and gemmological references. The chakra, element and
purpose associations are tradition, published across the modern crystal-healing literature and
offered here for reflection rather than as fact. Nothing on this page is medical advice.
