Green Crystals

Every green stone in the database, with what it is made of and what it is traditionally used for.

Green belongs to the heart in the chakra scheme, and to growth, luck and money in older folk traditions. It is also the most counterfeited colour in the trade: dyed quartz sold as jade, glass sold as moldavite, and green aventurine passed off as emerald. The green in a genuine stone usually comes from chromium, iron or copper, and the copper greens are the ones to keep away from water.

Alexandrite

Chrysoberyl

Green in daylight and red under lamplight, which is why it became the stone of the two-sided life.

Worth knowing: Genuine alexandrite is rarer than diamond. Nearly everything sold under the name is lab-grown alexandrite or colour-change synthetic corundum.

Jade

Jadeite / Nephrite

Carved for four thousand years in China and in Mesoamerica as the stone of a well-lived life.

Worth knowing: Jade is two different minerals: jadeite and nephrite. Both are genuine jade. Serpentine, aventurine and dyed quartz are frequently sold as jade and are not.

Moss Agate

Quartz (chalcedony)

Clear chalcedony with green mineral growth inside that looks like moss. The gardener's stone.

Worth knowing: The green is not plant matter. It is chlorite or hornblende that grew in dendritic, plant-like shapes.

Malachite

Copper carbonate · Mohs 3.5–4

Banded green copper carbonate, tied to transformation. Toxic, and best kept polished and dry.

Worth knowing: Malachite is a copper carbonate. Its dust is toxic and any water it has soaked in is unsafe to drink.

Moldavite

Tektite glass · Mohs 5.5

Green glass formed by a meteorite impact, with a reputation for rearranging lives fast.

Worth knowing: Moldavite is a tektite, glass formed by a meteorite impact about 15 million years ago, and it is one of the most faked stones sold. Green bottle glass is the usual substitute.

Why the colour matters

Colour is the fastest way into the correspondence system, because the chakra scheme is itself colour-coded, and most traditional associations follow the colour rather than the mineralogy. It is also the least reliable guide to how a stone must be treated: two stones of the same colour can be a hard silicate and a soft copper carbonate, and only one of them survives a rinse. Each card above carries its own verdict, and the safety checker has the full reasoning.

Fact and tradition, kept apart

The mineral family, the Mohs hardness and the water verdict on each card are checkable physical fact, drawn from standard mineralogical and gemmological references. The chakra, element and purpose associations are tradition, published across the modern crystal-healing literature and offered here for reflection rather than as fact.
